Peace of mind when you need it most

Many people insure their home or car in case something goes wrong, but have you considered what may happen if you were unable to work for an extended period of time due to sickness or injury?

SalarySafe is Club Super’s Income Protection insurance product and is designed to pay you a regular income if you are unable to work for an extended period of time due to sickness or injury. If you joined Club Super as an employer member, you would have automatically received SalarySafe cover.

We pay a benefit of up to 90% of your income, for the first 26 weeks of your claim (tapering applies thereafter), if you are unable to work in your usual occupation due to sickness or injury.

On top of that, a 10% Superannuation Guarantee contribution on the Income Protection benefit is paid into your super account. SalarySafe cover kicks in 28 days (the “Waiting Period”) after you are injured or sick and cannot work for a period of time.

Meet Anthony Clee from Coolum Bowls Club, who has been a member of Club Super for the past 16 years. Anthony was unable to work from March to September 2015 due to an injury sustained while playing tennis. Luckily, he had SalarySafe cover through Club Super which gave him the peace of mind to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation without the added financial stress. Anthony recently shared his experience with us.

Why did you need to make a SalarySafe claim?

I had an injury playing tennis where I ruptured my left Achilles tendon. In doing that I thought SalarySafe would help me out. SalarySafe played a really big part in helping me out financially. I probably wouldn’t have been able to have the time off work that I needed (without it).

How did you find the overall process when you made the claim?

Very easy. I had 3 weeks where I used my sick leave and then it was a 2 week wait for my first SalarySafe payment1. It continued right up until September when I came back to work. I was on light duties and they continued paying, matching my pay. So that worked out really well.

How was your experience in regards to support and responsiveness?

Very good. Windsor2 would email me once a week to let me know when payments were going through and the payments would be made on Friday every fortnight.

What do you think your life would have been like during the period you were off work if you didn’t have SalarySafe?

I wouldn’t have been able to survive. You still have all your bills, mortgage payments; you know just life in general. I wouldn’t be able to survive without it. It made life so much easier.

Based on your experience, would you recommend SalarySafe cover to other Club Super members?

Yes, definitely.
